Dark Raisin Bran Muffins

1 1/2 c unprocessed bran
1 1/4 c milk
1 1/2 c whole wheat flour
1 tbs baking powder
1/3 c sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 c (1 stick) butter ( or unsalted corn oil margarine)
1/4 c molasses
1 egg (or 2 egg whites)
1/2 c raisins
Preheat oven 400°
1. Combine bran and milk and let stand 10 min.
2. Combine dry ingredients and blend well
3. melt butter. Off beat add molasses, blend, then beat in egg.
4. add butter mixture to soaked bran and blend. add to dry ingredients and beat well. Stir in raisins.
5. spoon into muffin cups and bake 15 - 20 min.
